US 102 was an original 1926 route. Its north end was at a junction northeast of Covington MI (you can view photos from there on this page).
The south end was in Crystal Falls MI, where US 141 splits from US 2 today. The photo below is looking west on Superior Avenue:

Westbound US 2/Northbound US 141 go to the right on 5th Street ahead, but then resume westward again after one block, via Crystal Avenue. About one mile out of town, the two routes split: where US 141 heads north was once the south beginning of US 102. The photo below was taken at that junction, looking south on US 141:

Today southbound US 141 turns left with eastbound US 2, but originally this was southbound US 102, and it ended here.
It was 1929 when US 141 was extended north from Green Bay WI, and its northernmost segment assimilated US 102. Thus US 102 acquired the dubious distinction of being the first US route to be decommissioned - just a couple years after the US routes were originally created! It was a good move, though: US 102 was a tiny north/south route with an east/west number. So when US 141 took over, things made more sense.
