When I first began this site, I didn't have the tools to optimize the photos for fast downloading - nor did I really understand what a difference that can make. Now, on approximately 100 of those early photos, I've finished reducing the image size and/or cropping out extraneous areas, and re-saving them in an optimized format. Those actions reduced the total size of this site by about 3 megs, and it's now about 75% of the size it used to be. This has improved download time for many pages - some of them substantially.
23 September 2000:
