16 May 2009:
Yahoo recently announced that Geocities (the service which has hosted this website for over 10 years) will be shutting down on October 26 of this year. I have begun rebuilding the site - everything will eventually be under the domain "usends.com". However, I'm estimating that's going to take at least a couple months. Hopefully I'll be done by the time the existing site ceases functioning. If you are a webmaster and you have links to this site... well, unfortunately, they're going to be broken soon. If this concerns you, you can contact me, and I'll let you know the file structure of the new site, in case you'd like to get a head start on relinking your pages.

Recognizing the fact that virtually all endpoints have now been photographed,
I'm no longer using green as a highlight color on the main indexes. Instead,
all the endpoints are now white (making the indexes easier to read), except
I'm using orange to highlight any missing photos. This scheme will eventually

This site has now been online for ten years, so this is a good time to take a look at its progress:
- All current endpoints have now been photographed, except three (none of which were in place prior to 2005).
- All historic 2dus endpoints that were in place for at least ten years have now been photographed.
- The only other locations that lack photos are historic 3dus endpoints.
- For the first time, all known endpoints in an entire block of route families have been photographed (actually two blocks: US 50-59 and US 90-99, including branch routes).

Also, I've been running the photos through some advanced compression software
(from Pegasus Imaging),
which reduces the filesize anywhere from 25% to 75%, with virtually no image
degradation. After about four months of doing 20 photos per day, the bulk of
that work is done now... and the result is that my website is over 20 megs
smaller. This means a lot less throughput, and I've already noticed Yahoo's
temporary shutdowns (due to excessive bandwidth) have dropped to nearly zero.

at this level of detail revealed that there are really more like 1200 total
locations (up from the 820 points shown on the old maps). With that many, there
