A current and historic US highway endpoint in Pineville KY

Highway Approx. time period
US 23 1929-1930
US 123 [I] 1930-1934
US 119 1934-present

The current south end of US 119 at Pineville was first the south end of US 23, and then the south end of US 123 [I]. That route was swallowed up by an extension of US 119 in 1934, and this junction has marked the south end of that route ever since. There was not a standard "End" sign there, but the photo below shows the unusual sign that was posted approaching the junction with US 25E:

Elkins, 1998

That was still up when I was there in 2007 (actually, I think there are two: one on each side of the road). Signage at the actual terminus appears thus:

me, July 2007

From northbound US 25E, the south beginning of US 119 is marked like this:

me, July 2007

To the right used to be the south beginning of US 123[I], and before that, the south beginning of US 23 (briefly).
