Keokuk IA

I had been interested in this city for a long time - I think it had something to do with the fact that it's located further south than anyplace else in Iowa, on a point of land at the confluence of two great rivers - so I was eager to map it when the opportunity came up. Keokuk is ringed by fairly steep bluffs along the river's edge, and I'm pleased with the shaded relief I used on this map, because I think it does a good job in conveying a sense of the city being elevated above the floodplain.

On the second detail map (below), note the one-way streets; the railroad that still uses the lower deck of the old swing bridge; and the footpath leading out to an observation deck partway out the upper level of that bridge. Those are all details gleaned from my field-check. There are some things that remote sensing just can't help you with...
