This page is about the original US 411 (not to be confused with the short-lived US 411 [ii], or the current US 411). It was an east-west route, but since it connected only with US 11 (in Bristol) and US 25E (at Cumberland Gap), there was no east-west (even) number that would have been a better choice. A few years later, in 1932, US 421 was extended west from Boone NC along the entirety of what had been US 411. And the following year, US 58 was extended westward to the same terminus at Cumberland Gap.
