End of US highway 30 |
1926-present
|
Mileage: in 1989 AASHTO listed a figure of 3119 miles for US 30... however, that included the mileage of US 30's associated business/bypass/alternate routes. According to the state subtotals on AASHTO's 1989 spreadsheet, mainline US 30's actual end-to-end total at the time was 3073 miles. That closely matches our own 2020 measurement, which yielded 3078.5 miles (reroutings and realignments likely explain the difference).
Claim to fame: US 30 is the only US route that has always run from coast to coast, from the time the US highway system was commissioned in 1926 to the present day. Info about the highway's current and historic endpoints can be found on the Atlantic City page and on the Astoria page. US 30's midpoint is in Nebraska, between the towns of Brady and Maxwell.
