When the progenitor of this website was founded in the late 1990s, not many historical transportation maps had been scanned and put online, and I did not have access to many printed maps. So in order to get information about historic highway extents, I turned to the website us-highways.com (defunct as of 2016, but saved on archive.org). The author, Robert Droz, had done extensive research on current and historic termini of existing, decommissioned, and unsigned US highways. For several years, it was the most accurate and complete online resource. Information from us-highways.com formed the skeleton of this website, which I have continued to flesh out over the years, as an increasing amount of historical information has become available online. This website is indebted to the author and his work... and to those who, in turn, informed the material on us-highways.com (we stand on the shoulders of those who come before us).
