Since there are no US highways through Yellowstone National Park, US 89 technically consists of two segments. The north segment runs from the Canada border at Piegan MT to the North entrance of Yellowstone. Heading that direction, drivers first pass through this old stone arch...

Travelers can go all the way through the Park using any road they choose, but they will not see any highway signs until they exit again.

Historically US 89 resumed again at Yellowstone's south entrance, but now the first sign is not posted until 30 miles south of there, at Moran Jct. Heading out of Yellowstone at the north gate, historically the first sign a driver would see was the ugly homemade one shown here, but that has since been removed, and the sign at left has been changed, too:

The road runs to the right along the Park boundary for about two blocks, and then travelers are directed to turn left into the town of Gardiner:
